Eastbourne seafront walk for children with Down’s Syndrome Empty Eastbourne seafront walk for children with Down’s Syndrome

Promoted by Slater and Gordon Eastbourne Down’s Syndrome Support Group is hosting a sponsored walk this Sunday (September 30) to raise money for children with the condition. Ahead of Down’s Syndrome Awareness month (October), the group hopes to raise money for therapy – including physio, occupational therapy and more – which is not always available on the NHS.

Member Carla, who is mum to one-year-old Fern, said, “The group offers us invaluable support. Being able to reach out to other family’s and be ourselves. “It helps us with the physical and emotional aspects of raising a child with an extra chromosome.”

While Stef, mum of Aiden, four, says it is fantastic to take part in an upcoming awareness video from #wouldntchangeathing. She said, “We were involved in the 50 mums video too and were blown away that it went viral. We just want to show a child with a disability can have just as much fun as any child.

“Aiden brings so much joy and laughter to our family, we couldn’t be more proud of him, especially with him starting primary school last week. He takes everything in his stride and makes everyone smile and laugh.” Starting at the Bandstand at 10am, the group will walk the 1.5 miles to Fort Fun. Children with DS and their siblings have free entry.
