Lily Allen says she slept with prostitutes 'to deal with postnatal depression'

Lily Allen has said loneliness and post-natal depression led her to hire prostitutes on tour.
After it emerged this week that the Smile singer had slept with female escorts while promoting her Sheezus album in 2014, she defended her actions – and criticised the press coverage – in a new interview on Tuesday.
"It’s not, like, steamy, raunchy, although that’s what the tabloids have made it out to be, as a 'lesbian prostitute sex romp' – which I guess it was, in a way," said Allen, 33.
"But it was more about a period of time that I was feeling incredibly lonely and sort of at my wits end. I was looking for anything. Looking for an outlet."
Speaking on the Australian TV talk show The Project, she continued: "It’s not really a salacious sex story, it’s more about hotel rooms and being on my own and being very far away from my kids and my husband. I’m a big advocate for having no shame.
"In retrospect, I know what was going on. I think I had postnatal depression and my marriage was deteriorating and I found outlets to deal with all of that."
Allen has two daughters with her former partner Sam Cooper, a builder and decorator. She gave birth to her second in 2013 while working on Sheezus, an album she has previously said was "inspired by her experiences of motherhood". Allen and Cooper divorced earlier this year.
Allen has written about her decision to hire sex workers in a forthcoming autobiography, My Thoughts Exactly, and decided to speak about it after learning that sections of the book had been leaked to the press.
"Sooo, in my book ‘My Thoughts Exactly’ (out on 20th Sept) I detail some stuff from my dark days, around the Sheezus era. I slept with female escorts when I was on tour, cause I was lost and lonely and looking for something. I’m not proud, but I’m not ashamed. I don't do it any more," she wrote on Instagram this weekend. "Someone leaked it, and they’re bound to make sound worse than it was. Just wanted to give you Er, the ‘heads up’!"
